(1960s) This is one of THE holy grails in mug collecting: The MAHIMAHI mug! Oceanic Arts attempted getting into mug production under their own banner at one point. When they saw the difficulty, they teamed up with Stella Bodey and Spurlin. When Spurlin closed, Stella sold her business, catalog, molds, supplies, custom glazes and client list to Desert Ceramics. This mug was under the rare Oceanic Arts banner, yet still contracted to Desert Ceramics. The design is based on an Eli Hedley carving that was used for the signature logo for the MAHIMAHI restaurant and bar in Nashville, Tennessee. The management contracted OA to make the mug for promotional purposes during its first year of operation. They never ordered another shipment after that first batch. These are exceedingly rare to come by. VG+ with a small chip at the base and on the rim. See photos. 3"dia x 7".
