(1940) As noted in the previous lot, here is one of the most sought after items in Covarrubias, World's Fair and Pacifica collecting: The full "Pageant of the Pacific" portfolio is exceedingly rare. In 1940 dollars, this was an expensive item reserved for high-end fine art clientele. The only way to get one of these prints was when someone broke up their set of the six lithographs that came with the set. Maps included: plate 1. Peoples of the Pacific; plate 2. The fauna and flora of the Pacific; plate 3. Art forms of the Pacific area; plate 4. Economy of the Pacific; plate 5. Native dwellings of the Pacific area; plate 6. Native means of transportation in the Pacific area. The large portfolio boards are silk screened with a brown tapa pattern and Covarrubias' name in blue ink. The prints are held in by a wood spine dowel. Also present is the 10-page Pacific House Pageant of the Pacific booklet. OVERALL VG+ with some areas of discoloration around the dowel fold and light foxing. Apparently unissued. Portfolio:40.5"x26" open. Plates 1-1V measure approximately 38" x 25" ; plates V-VI measure 25" x 19".
