(1930s)* If there ever was a "Rosebud", a legendary heirloom of Tikidom, these carvings are it. Introduced by Don The Beachcomber, brought to prominence by the Thornton brothers as the logo Tikis of the Mai Kai and utilized by Stephen Crane, the Tahitian Cannibals essentially represent the avatar of "TIKI". These exceptional carvings are the exact type Ernest Gantt used on display at Don the Beachcomber, Hollywood. Individually, the three characters are "The Captor", "The Ingestor" and "The Digestor"...morbid for sure and it is exactly that 'gallows' humor that personified and attracted the early innovators of the Polynesian-Pop world. Sven acquired these in Los Angeles and it would make sense that these are a direct lineage to beginnings of the movement in Southern California. One will be hard pressed to find better examples of these famous effigies. The three are old and thus have some excellent patina and wear. Overall, VG+ with some wood wear. The INGESTOR carving has damage to one leg of the "victim" which is partially missing. See photos. 5.25"x12.75"x7", 5.25"x13.25"x7", 6"x13"x7".
