(1960s) By the late 1960s, Danny Balsz was going thru cash as quick as he was everything else. In order to offer more variety at his bars and bring down costs, he had his original OMC mugs cast and reproduced locally with a small ceramics company. This is one of those recasts. One can tell the recasts by several factors: First, they are smaller than the original Moai mugs. They are cast off the originals and when this happens, there is a reduction in size. Second, the castings are not sharp and therefore, the marking stamps on the underside of "THE TIKIS" is usually hard to see since heavy glazing was usually a hallmark of these mugs. Finally, color. Any THE TIKIS mugs not in the traditional OMC production of black Moai, such as red, white, and the Bi-Centennial mug were part of these in-house productions. Red is very rare. VG+. 3.5"dia x 6.75".
