(1950s) The next lots represent some true treasures of Poly-Pop history! These are decor salvage pieces from the mythic, MAI-KAI in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In the late 1960s, some large changes came to the MAI-KAI where whole rooms were either remodeled or completely blown out in the interest of larger expansion. This particular PNG war shield was created by LeRoy Schmaltz of supplier, Oceanic Arts (then called, SCHMALTZ-VAN OOSTING) specifically on commission to the MAI-KAI. Here is an uncut carving used for replication on a jig router. It is not painted and double sided. This later became a perennial in the OA catalog. VG+. 36"x8".
