(1950s) In the late 1950s, celebrated art director and designer George Nakashima was brought into the refurb process at the MAI-KAI after the introduction of George to the Thornton brothers. They wasted no time putting George to good use, optimizing, customizing and expanding many of the venue's many dining rooms, bars and show spaces. George created the famous trim seen only at the MAI-KAI in the next couple lots. These were sketched out by George and carved at Cass Carving in Los Angeles. Cass was used by George for overflow work when OA was simply too taxed with projects to take on more. Many of these can still be seen at the venue to this day. This particular piece was used in "joining" angle corners and long stretches of the trim throughout the walkways of the MAI-KAI. VG+ with typical wear. 8.5"x8".
