(1960s)* This is one of my favorite pieces of Polynesian pop art. It tells the story of Hina and her eel lover, who was killed by angry Maui. He cut off the eel's head and Hina planted it in the ground, from where it grew the first coconut tree. This piece hung at both THE TIKIS locations, Monterey Park and THE TIKIS II in Lake Elsinore. Sven acquired this directly from Danny Balsz when he was cashing out the park's decor before his eviction. A stellar piece of Tiki history, this hung over one of the main bars in the facility and then for almost 30 years in Sven's living room. The piece was published in THE BOOK OF TIKI, pp.109. VG+ with typical wear from exposure at the park such as chipping to the paint and edge wear. 58"x24.25".
