(1960s) A historic tiki by Sea & Jungle attributed to Steve Crane's THE LUAU in Beverly Hills. It is possible this was first made by Sea & Jungle from a design by George Nakashima. This carving style eventually was offered in the Sea & Jungle catalog. Standing at almost 6 1/2 feet tall, the wall figure features exquisite detail carving and capiz shell eyes. There were several of these installed at THE LUAU and upon its closure, Oceanic Arts purchased a good deal of the interior carvings. Peekaboo Gallery sold the famous OA sales counter companion to this Tiki at the second Godfathers of TIKI auction of Ocenaic Arts in October 2022. Tikis on this level are rarely offered on the market, making this a good opportunity to acquire an A-level carving for your collection. The piece is currently in two halves as it was produced which also makes for easier transport. Overall VG+ with typical wear. 26.5"x78.5".
