(1970s) One of the most famous features of Danny Balsz's THE TIKIS were the Tikis themselves. There were several side stages in the main show amphitheater at the venue. Each of these placed around the arena to offer close quarters entertainment to the massive 3000 seat audience. One of these side stages has an almost 30 foot Hawaiian Ku War God Tiki, breathing fire from internal gas jets and holding a massive carved shield. OA created this incredible figure custom for Danny at great expense in the late 1960s for inclusion into the park. The shield he holds was a scaled up version of the #462 Aboriginal Shield in the OA catalog. Upon the receipt and installation of this "Wonder of the Tiki World", Danny immediately commissioned a second for the opposite facing side stage. Through shifting fortunes and finances, that order was cancelled however, not before LeRoy Schmaltz went ahead and created another giant shield based on the #461 Aboriginal Shield for that never to arrive second Tiki. This gorgeous shield stands at a whopping 10 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Next to the Colossus of Rhodes is there a more mythic giant to stir the imagination than THE TIKIS massive Ku? Here stands hard evidence to history that it truly existed!120"x24"VG+ with typical wear from use
