(1960s) Demetrio Chavez was a star carver out of Tijuana, Mexico who worked almost exclusively for Oceanic Arts. Demetrio was enterprising in his spare time and ran a series of tourist gift shops in his native city where he sold items off the record. These #201 "STYLIZED HAWAIIAN FEMALE FIGURE" Pele carvings were made for Oceanic Arts by Demetrio, however, Demetrio would make molds and sell these cheaply made copies with questionable permission at his family-run stores. Plaster with wood-like paint job and marked MEXICO under the base. VG+ with typical wear. 5"dia x 10".
