(1970s) Here is a series of neat items and a study in Poly-Pop politics. Bob Carter aka Cargoes by Carter sold his business, contacts, catalog and remaining stock to Benson's Tropical Imports upon his retirement in the early 1970s. When that happened, Benson's took it as a signal that anything in Carter's stock was now theirs. In doing so, they absconded with several OA original designs SOLD to Carter, but not owned. Thus is the case with these plastic tiki masks. Benson's took the wood originals and created these vacuformed knock-offs. Interestingly, Bob Van Oosting, rather than be upset that Benson's was selling these OA knock-offs, bought some at a discount for sale at OA! These plastic masks came from the OA rental department. 24"x11.5". VG+ with typical wear.
